All About Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA)

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) is a program launched by the Government of India in 2001 to provide free and compulsory education to all children aged 6 to 14. Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) was launched to achieve the goal of universal elementary education. SSA focuses on providing quality education to every child, regardless of their social background or geographical location.

SSA’s vision resonated with the 86th Amendment to the Indian Constitution, which made free and compulsory education a fundamental right for children in this age group. The program’s overarching goal was to ensure that every child had access to quality education, empowering them to reach their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society.

While SSA has achieved remarkable success, the journey toward universal elementary education is an ongoing one. Challenges remain in areas such as ensuring quality education in all schools and addressing the learning needs of children from diverse backgrounds.
